Go New Hampshire!

Found this article, thanks everyone for helping keep our beaches and waters clean!

HAMPTON — Hampton Beach State Park still ranks among the safest beaches in the United States to swim because of the cleanliness of its water, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The Washington-based environmental group once again awarded New Hampshire's most popular beach with a five-star rating in its annual report entitled "Testing the Waters: A Guide to Water Quality at Vacation Beaches."
The annual report based on data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was released on Wednesday, July 29.
"Hampton Beach is one of the best beaches in the nation," said Nancy Stoner, co-director of the NRDC's water programs. "It's got clean water, and it's well monitored and they let people know (if) there's a problem there."
This was the second year the organization ranked the nation's top beaches in five different categories regarding water quality and safety.
The beaches that met or surpassed standards in a specific category, such as cleanliness or water monitoring, were given a star.
"Hampton Beach was one of a handful of beaches that received a star in all five categories," Stoner said. "Two of the stars are based on water quality and the other three are monitoring and notification practices."
Stoner said during the last three years Hampton Beach did not have a water quality reading that exceeded the 5 percent national health standard for bacteria.
The beach was checked twice a week — from May through Labor Day — in 2008, she said, and not one of those samples indicated water quality that was poor enough to cause an advisory to be issued or closure.
Stoner said the beach also received high marks in the report for notifying beachgoers when there is a problem via signs, as well as Internet postings.
"Beaches usually don't want to tell people they have a problem," Stoner said. "Hampton got a star because they do."
Other five-star beaches included Gulf Shores Public Beach in Alabama, Laguna Beach-Main Beach in California, and Park Point — Community Club Beach in Duluth, Minn.
Some of the lowest ranking beaches (1-star) were Zach's Bay at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, New York; Ocean Beach Park in New London, Conn.; and Venice Public Beach in Florida.
Seacoast Park Supervisor Brian Warburton said he was thrilled Hampton Beach received a five-star rating for the second year in a row.
Warburton reiterated that it is a team effort that goes into making Hampton Beach one of the cleanest beaches around, involving people from state employees to all the different groups that volunteer who give their time to clean the beach through its "Adopt a Beach Program."
While the council rewarded the cleanest, most popular areas, its report was not all good news for the nation's beaches.
Nationally, 7 percent of beach water samples violated health standards indicating the presence of human or animal waste and showed no improvement from 2007 or 2006.
"It means we are really not turning the corner and not making progress in cleaning up the two biggest sources of the pollution, which are contaminated storm water and sewerage," Stoner said.
The good news was that New Hampshire, along with Delaware and Virginia, were listed as the top three states in the country for having the best beach water quality.
For the first time, the annual report also explored the effects of climate change on beach water quality.
The report indicated the changing climate is expected to make pollution worse. The combined effects of more frequent and intense rainstorms and temperature increases will lead to increased storm water runoff, combined sewer overflows and pathogens flowing into waterways that empty into the ocean.

Yummmmmmmm!

So it was a BUSY day at the beach! The Smart Waters went SO fast and the tshirts even faster! It was packed and the traffic was ridiculous, backed up on 101 East to the 95 exits. Always take the back roads on nice days like this.

I got some lunch from Maura at the Purple Urchin, Fish and Chips, and it was delicous. My stomach may hate me right now, but it is so good! Mmm and they do my favorite beer batter, nice and thick.

OK, off into my grease coma! See you at the beach Wednesday, and keep your eye out here for more cool deals on the seacoast.
